The 2013 Sustainability Agenda

SWEDISH SUMMARY: I mitt blogginlägg i början av veckan (7 januari: ”2013 – what will be on the Sustainable Pharmaceuticals Agenda”) beskrev jag vad jag ser på miljöagendan under 2013.

In my blog post from January 7, ”2013 – what will be on the Sustainable Pharmaceuticals Agenda”, I looked into the crystal ball and presented some hot topics from the 2013 sustainability agenda. For obvious reasons from a very clear pharmaceutical persepctive. One of my favourite newspapers/websites on environmental matters – Miljöaktuellt - asked Svante Axelsson (Secretary General, Naturskyddsföreningen) and Annika Helker Lundström (Managing Director, Svensk Vindenergi) to look into their crystal balls and discuss the 2013 hot environmental and sustainability issues. I guess it does not come as a surprise to anyone that Global Warming is high on the list. It is a huge challange for society and it puts millions and millions of humans into great risk. Svante Axelsson also refers to the fact that IPCC releases a new report in September – yet another reason why global warming will be dominating the 2013 general sustainability agenda.

From Pfizer’s perspective, the discussions on global warming will also be extra interesting during 2013. We did reach the end of our second generation goal regarding decreases of greenhouse gas emissions during 2012. The first generation goal encompassed 2000 to 2007 and the second generation 2008 to 2012.

- 2000 to 2007 goal: Decrease the greenhouse gas emissions with 35% (indexed for sales). Pfizer reached a 43% decrease in emissions.

- 2008 to 2012 goal: Decrease the greenhouse gas emissions with 20% in absolute numbers. Pfizer reached the goal already in 2011.

Read more about Pfizer’s climate change initiatives at the Pfizer corporate website and in my blog post from Sept 13, 2012, when Pfizer was recognized by the Carbon Disclosure Project for the good achievements.
