Sustainability, Social media, Vaccines – different aspects of CR

SWEDISH SUMMARY: Denna vecka deltar jag i många olika aktiviteter som visar på bredden inom Ansvarsfullt företagande, eller på engelska: Corporate Responsibility. Igår var fokus på läkemedel, miljö och hållbar utveckling, idag deltar jag i Dagens Medicins seminarium ”Sociala medier i sjukvård och hälsa”, imorgon bär det av till Bryssel för nya diskussioner gällande läkemedel och miljö, och sen på torsdag är det möte med LIF:s Expertgrupp Vaccin. Vaccinområdet är mycket spännande tycker jag eftersom det både handlar om förebyggande av ohälsa i samhället vilket jag tror blir ett allt viktigare uppdrag för läkemedelsindustrin, men också eftersom vaccinationsprogram generellt sett debatteras ur många olika perspektiv – debatter som industrin måste vilja och våga delta i, det handlar om anvarstagande!

This week is for me a perfect example of the many different perspectives on Corporate Responsibility within the pharmaceutical industry. Yesterday the focus was on pharmaceuticals, the environment and sustainability. In the morning we met in the LIF Expertgroup Environment (LIF – the research-based pharmaceutical industry in Sweden). Topics on the agenda were among others:

- the National Pharmaceutical Strategy, where we discussed task 7.1 and 7.2. You can read more about these initiatives in my blog posts from e.g. Nov 22, 2012, and Dec 05, 2012.
- the Environmental Classification of Pharmaceutical Substances on Fass.se

In the afternoon yesterday I met with representatives from Sofia Wallström’s Pharmaceutical and Pharmacy Review (in Swedish: ”Läkemedels- och Apoteksutredningen”). As you probably know, this review includes the task 7.1 from the National Pharmaceutical Strategy (see above).

And today I am participating in Dagens Medicin’s seminar on the use of social media in healthcare (twitter hashtag #dmagenda). If you are a regular follower of my blog you know I have been participating in similar events previously. See for instance my blog posts from Sept 19, 2012, Feb 23, 2012, and Aug 24, 2011. You know that I am fascinated by social media. It offers a very user friendly channel for interactions with all our different stakeholders. And interactive communication with stakeholders is crucial in all Corporate Responsibility programs. And we yet need to improve. On today’s seminar I will present Pfizer’s social media initiatives ”Can You Feel My Pain” and ”Rauchfrei Runners”, as well as the Environmental and Responsibility Blog.

And then tomorrow I meet with several European colleagues and peers at EFPIA to discuss pharmaceuticls in the environment, and related sustainability issues within the pharmaceutical industry.

And then on Thursday, there is a meeting with the LIF Expertgroup Vaccines (LIF - the research-based pharmaceutical industry in Sweden). And I love participating in discussions regarding vaccines. Vaccines is a brilliant example where we as an industry prevents ill-health in society. As you know from reading e.g. my blogpost from Oct 11, 2012, I strongly believe that prevention of illnesses and health promotion will become more and more important parts of our business. And that is in itself actually one of the best examples of corporate social responsibility within our industry. And in addition to that, vaccines are important to our industry’s work on trust and reputation, since a lot of people have strong feelings about vaccines. It is important that we as an industry wants to, and dares to, participate in that debate!

It is all about Corporate Responsibility!
