Corporate Responsibility and Business Opportunities
The Pfizer office in Sollentuna, Sweden, had 40 visitors today from Uppsala Bio’s and Stockholm/Uppsala Chamber of Commerce’s network on Life Sceince and MedTech. They visited us to listen to my presentation on “Sustainable Development - a core element of of strategic business development”.
My main message today was that there are great business opportunities in “doing the right thing”. The opportunities do not only include building the brand, but also present several new business opportunities if we manage to find relevant business models.
Let me show you some of the most important slides that I used today.
First of all, the so called “Walderik-Mattson pyramid”:
You can read more details on the pyramid, and what I try to symbolize with it, on my blog post from March 29 last year.
I also gave more detailed ideas on where the business opportunities “of tomorrow” might be found when more and more discussions will arise reagrding health promotion and illness prevention. See more details on my blogpost from June 9, 2010.
As you may be aware of, I believe that health promotion and illness prevention is an important “first step” to reach a sustainable use of pharmaceuticals, as visualized by this figure, developed by “the Sustainable Development task force” within LIF (Swedish Pharma Association).
The following steps include “green design of the pharmaceutical substances”, “green manufacturing and green supply chains”, and “green choices within health care and society”. We had a fairly long discussion on the last issue: “Green choices”. In order for this to be sussessful, industry needs green incentives. And in order for society and/or customers to give those incentives to us, we need to be able to present green criteria and green credentials for our products and/or companies. Read more about the discussion on green criteria and green incentives in my blog post from Nov 17, 2010.
